The year 2006 marked my highest growth in Litreary litreacy..or i have been deceived into thinking lyk dat.Although i hated to concede to the fact that i am an Amatuer reader,my choice of books was really naive.I was lyk a radio which cud tuned to a deired frequency. So if ppl go gaga abt some author,i ll be among the firsts to procure a copy of dat book without digging deep into what wud suit my taste. Moreover my reading habits , b4 this year were actually a part of preparations for higher competetive exams. So tat more or less, took the lyf dat reading habit wud have instilled.....
But miracles do happen.I changed my attitude towards books, and reading books became more of a pleasure giver than a regular had-to read-to-crack-cat types...
So here are the pick of the chunk in 2006.
1984 by GEORGE ORWELL
This has been and will be one of the greatest novels ever written,in my personal view. This depicts in front of ur eyes wat one calls an Orwellian form of governments and the effects it has on the people. It was also more, like a prediction of how 1984 would be in 1948.Winston,the main charecter in this book, tries to fight the opressive world around him where even thoughts against the governments wud send you to the deepest of hells.
"TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD" by HARPER LEE
Not for nothing did this book get the coveted pulitzier prize. This is a absolute masterpiece. This is something of a classic american novels. In this Harper lee tries to tell the story of a local attorney trying to defend a "coloured" felon charged with rape and attempt to murder against the society which is completley against it.It is filled wid subtle humour and beautiful things which emerge from a child s inference abt coplex issues.Atticus Finch the leading charecter in the novel has entered into the books of ppl who often need an example of a good man.A splendid read.
IDLE THOUGHTS OF AN IDLE FELLOW by
JEROME K JEROME
The name of the book more or less sums up this review. It s not a novel exactly,it is just a bunch of essays, whose contents are more or less comparable to ur daily lyf,if you are a genuine idler. It is packed wid humour which is a Jerome K Jerome charecteristic.
His riveting wit(if i may say so) catches u off gaurd more often than very often.
